What Would Warren Buffet Do (WWWBD)?

Warren Buffett is known as the greatest “long‑game” investor of all time. His approach is simple, steady, and built for young investors who want to grow wealth over decades, not days. Here are four Buffett principles that every new investor should understand early.

1. Own great companies. If you are picking individual companies, Buffett teaches that investing is really about ownership. When you buy a stock, you’re buying a piece of a real business. Great companies with strong products, loyal customers, and durable advantages tend to grow over time. When the business grows, your wealth grows.

2. Index investing is smart—and simple. Buffett has repeatedly said that most people should invest in low‑cost index funds, especially the S&P 500. Why? Because Index Funds are an ever‑evolving list of the best companies within that index target (in other words, the fund managers do the research homework for you.) Funds replace weaker companies with stronger ones. You get built‑in quality without needing to pick winners yourself.

3. If you do pick individual stocks, choose quality and plan to hold them. Buffett looks for companies with excellent management teams, great products, and the ability to adapt when consumer habits change. You may not hold a stock forever, but on the day you buy it, that should be your mindset.

4. You only need about 20 good investing decisions in your lifetime. Buffett once noted that a young investor might make only twenty meaningful investment decisions over a 45‑year career. That’s how powerful long‑term ownership is. Frequent trading isn’t the path to wealth—steady, disciplined investing is.

The long game wins. Buffett has proved it.
